I mentioned the vague desire to compile a list of inspirational quotes that spoke to me, and got well and truly enabled (my friends are fantastic at enabling). So, I'm doing that. I'm also going to forward date this entry, so it'll float at the top of my journal and I can add things as I find them/they strike me.

Some of these will be quotes by famous people, some will be stolen from music (because I'm me), others may well just be Mecca cracking wise. This is here for my benefit, so I'm not stressing where the things that make me good come from. Just being grateful for them, and appreciating them.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. --Ralph Waldo Emerson

We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way. -- Unwritten, Natasha Bedingfield

No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path. --Buddha

You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection. --Buddha

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. --Winston Churchill

Even when your eyes are closing, do it with your heart wide open --Say What You Need To Say, John Mayer

The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware. --Henry Miller

If we're growing, we're always going to be out of our comfort zone. --John Maxwell quotes

Focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear. --Anthony Robbins

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. --Winston Churchhill

The slightest hesitation can bring you down in flames. -- Call The Ships To Port, The Covenant

Forgiveness is giving up the possibility of a better past. --Unknown

The best way out is always through. --Robert Frost

You must be the change you wish to see in the world. --Mahatma Ghandi

If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise. --Robert Fritz

Why do writers write? Because it isn't there. -- Thomas Berger

Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything. -- Plato

You get what you're given, it's all how you use it -- God is a DJ, Pink

You have not lived until you have found something worth dying for.

Peace is not the absence of violence. Peace is the manifestation of human compassion. ~Dalai Lama

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage. - Anais Nin

The great value of life is to spend it on something that will outlast it. - James Truslow Adams

It's never too late to be what you might have been. -- George Eliot

May you live all the days of your life. -- Jonathan Swift

A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity. --Buddha

If not you, then who? If not now, then when? -- Hillel

Contemplation often makes life miserable. We should act more, think less, and stop watching ourselves live. -- Chamfort

When I'm trusting and being myself... everything in my life reflects this by falling into place easily, often miraculously. -- Shakti Gawain

Some days it don't come at all and these are the days that never end -- Meatloaf, I'd Do Anything For Love

Every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back I hope you feel it -- Alanis Morisette, You Oughta Know

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. ~Gilda Radner

I'm strong enough to take these dreams and make them mine -- Creed, Higher.

We may rise and fall, but in the end we'll meet our fate together -- Creed, One.

For those who may not find happiness to exercise religious faith, it's okay to remain a radical atheist, it's absolutely an individual right, but the important thing is with a compassionate heart -- then no problem. -- The Dalahi Lama

We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection. -- The Dalai Lama

Don't bend don't break baby don't back down -- Bon Jovi, It's My Life

Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. ~Charlie Parker

Against the grain should be a way of life, what's worth the prize is worth the fight -- Nickleback, If Today Was Your Last Day.

You might want to change yourself. I would rather learn to accept myself. --Robert Aitken

When we finally know we are dying, and all other sentient beings are dying with us, we start to have a burning, almost heartbreaking sense of the fragility and preciousness of each moment and each being, and from this can grow a deep, clear, limitless compassion for all beings. -- Sogyal Rinpoche

You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
--David Harkins

I have learned that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences. --James Rhinehart

Handle yourself using your brain but handle others with your heart.

He who blames others has a long way to go on his journey.
He who blames himself is halfway there. He who blames no one has arrived.
(Chinese proverb)

How far you go in life is determined by how tender you are with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with those striving, and tolerant with the weak and strong, because some day in life you will have been all of them.

I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty. (John D. Rockefeller Jr.)

The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them. That's the essence of inhumanity. -— George Bernard Shaw

Nothing is so strong as gentlenes and nothing is so gentle as real strength. --Ralph W. Sockman

“I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs... [They] are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty.” --James Herriot

<lj-embed id="17" /><lj-embed id="18" /><lj-embed id="19" /><lj-embed id="20" />

If you know me through fandom, through gaming or because of my writing, you probably don't need to friend me here. This has not one damn thing to do with television, books, writing, reading, vidding, art, or anything else. This is just me, being me. It's me talking about my health, my family (by name), posting personal pictures, and the occasional recipe.

This is my personal space, and I guard it fiercly and probably excessively. Friending this journal does not mean I'm going to friend you back. If we've interacted very little in general, or almost exclusively about fandom, I'm probably not going to friend you. If we don't have things outside fandom in common - kids, pets, attitudes, politics, something - I'm probably not going to friend you.

This is, I realize, a damn hard line. I'm not trying to reject anyone, I'm not trying to be a bitch. My email is always open, and so is fandom_me. I just need this space for me, for the sake of my mental health and general sense of well being.
